Playa Coyote consists of many different beaches that stretch along the Pacific side the Nicoya Peninsula, one of which is Costa de Oro or Gold Coast. Costa de Oro is south of Playa San Miguel, and north of Punta Coyote.

The white sand beach is a quiet area with few accommodations, and only a strip of road that runs 2 kilometers along the coast. The surrounding areas are on the rise and soon Costa de Oro will follow. Costa de Oro consists of the main beach road that spans up and down the coast.

On this road there are beach homes, a restaurant, and a few cabinas for rent. The lack of touristic features such as, huge hotels, lavish restaurants, and souvenir shops, creates a calm secluded area for relaxation. The neighboring beaches of San Miguel, and Punta Coyote offer a few more accommodations and restaurants, but are still considered very small when compared to Montezuma, Flamingo, or Tamarindo.

A main feature that allows the area to be so isolated is lack of paved roads. All the roads leading towards the Costa de Oro, are dirt gravel roads and are often very bumpy. The rough terrain makes for a great travel experience, and gives a feel of a traveling towards uncharted lands.

On the main road you will find a nice restaurant and bar called Bar.Co Nico. The restaurant offers wireless internet, cable TV, full bar, and a wide variety of food. The Bar.Co Nico is located right on the beach at the intersection of the main beach road and the beach entrance road. The restaurant is open from Wednesday to Monday at 10:00 for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks.

Many of the beach properties are privately owned and can be rented through the owners. The prices of the rentals can range from $35 a night to any amount depending on the amenities offered in the rental.

Costa de Oro is truly a diamond in the rough and much like its neighboring beaches it is awaiting your visit.
